Since 2015, Batubalani has compiled a network of performance artists from the Philippines and supported the production of new live artworks by the Philippine diaspora in London (Kilapsaw: Everything Must Go, 2016). Pursuing the promotion of Philippine modern and contemporary art in the UK, Batubalani will collaborate with the curatorial collective Something Human in a pioneering initiative to set up an archive of Southeast Asian performance art in the UK.
The Moving Archive Performance (M.A.P.) was initiated in 2016 by Something Human to develop the profile of performance art from Southeast Asia in the UK. This project culminates in the establishment of an archive related to Southeast Asian performance art deposited in the collection of the Live Art Development Agency, as well as a two-day launch event featuring live performances, talks and discussions.
Representing the Philippines, Batubalani will contribute towards this landmark archive by compiling and contributing primary and secondary materials related to performance art in the Philippines. In addition, Batubalani’s team members will partake in the art historical conversations and talks on the history and contemporary forms of performance art from Southeast Asia, and members of Batubalani’s creative team will partake in the staging of new, live performances and interventions during the opening event.
